Types of massage Offered
Swedish
Swedish massage provides full-body muscle relaxation, and it can be especially helpful if you're recovering from an injury. Using lotion or oil, massage therapists typically begin with broad general strokes and then transition to specific strokes to address problem areas.
Neuromuscular
Neuromuscular therapy consists of alternating levels of concentrated pressure on the areas of muscle spasm. The American Academy of Pain Management recognizes this form of massage therapy as an effective treatment for back pain caused by soft tissue injury.
Aromatherapy
A Swedish massage with scented plant oils (known as essential oils) added to the massage oil. The soothing effects of aromatherapy massage can benefit a variety of conditions, including headaches, insomnia, certain digestive disorders, back pain, and even premenstrual symptoms.
Positional Release
An indirect technique to relieve muscular tension and reestablish pain-free range of motion in joints. The massage therapist skillfully moves the muscle and joint into a position of greater comfort that eases the client’s pain and holds it until a full release of pain and tension occur in the body.
Deep Tissue
This type of massage is particularly beneficial for people with chronic pain. It targets muscle knots in the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue and includes more pressure than Swedish massage. Deep Tissue is effective in treating repetitive stress injuries.
Trigger Point
A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache. Trigger point massage therapy is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release.
Sports
Sports massage manipulates the body's soft tissues, and focus on certain muscle groups depending on which sport the athlete plays. This type of massage can help with increased blood flow, increased range of motion, and increased flexibility. The strokes are generally faster than a typical Swedish massage.
Myofascial
Myofascial release treats chronic pain disorder caused by sensitivity and tightness in your myofascial tissues. These tissues surround and support the muscles throughout your body. The pain usually originates from specific points within your myofascial tissues called “trigger points.”
